Shopping for stationery is inspiring

Shopping for clothes is depressing

I really want that dress

But the dressing room mirror always tells me no

It’s the gut, it says

It’s your arms, it says

It’s not those boobs, it always reassures

Because it is never the boobs

That dampen my clothing search

It is always the big arms

Or the lopsided shoulders

Or the abdominal area

That I believe can never flatten

And even with all of this

I still maintain my plan

To wear the pretty dress

In the dead of summer

And look fabulous
